Badger Prevention
Badger Prevention
We are experts in identifying and preventing badgers. When necessary, we collaborate with ecologists and the licensing authority to find solutions to badger issues.
Sett activity and forage activity are the two main types of badger activity. Several issues may arise as a result of this badger activity:
- Contamination caused by faeces in badger latrines as they create a hole for themselves to urinate.
- When they dig up lawns to reach worms and other invertebrates beneath the grass for nourishment, they cause damage to the lawns.
- Damage done to livestock and poultry as a result of eating poultry and the spread of disease and virus
- Plant and crop damage
- Fences and other property are damaged.
- Ticks that can spread Lyme disease, which can be lethal if untreated, are also carried by badgers.
Badgers and their setts are protected. So specific laws have been set in place to what you can and can’t do to control badgers.
We advise having a site survey conducted by us in order to better understand your issue and provide more advice. We may find the most straightforward answer through the survey, which we would also guarantee.
We can determine the damage and confirm if badgers or foxes are to blame for equivalent hazards and harm. Then, we can assess the best way to keep badgers out and ensure that they won’t interfere with our efforts to prevent them.
Our ecologist may need to do an additional survey if a sett is found on the property before conducting a more thorough investigation of the sett’s activity. On your behalf, they will communicate with the licensing body to try to secure approval for the suggested badger control method.
Due to the complex process it is not guaranteed that it will be possible to carry out the works however a survey is the starting point.
The law and what you must not do
If you are found guilty of any of the following offences, you could get a fine without limit and a maximum sentence of six months in jail:
- Badgers should not be purposefully captured, hurt, or killed, or their setts should not be damaged or blocked off.
- Badgers in setts are disturbed.
- Purposely put a dog into a sett where badgers are being sent to be baited or dug for, treat a badger harshly.
You’re breaking the law and subject to an unlimited fine if you:
- Possess a badger, sell it, or provide a live one for sale.
- Own or keep a dead badger or badger parts (if you got it illegally)
- A badger with a marking substance or a marking gadget
